Position Overview
We’re seeking a Sales Engineer to lead and expand the company’s commercial AV division. This is not your typical sales gig. You’ll function as a sales consultant and solutions architect, responsible for generating your own leads, designing AV systems, and guiding projects from concept to closeout.
You won’t just sell the system—you’ll help implement your own proposals early on to build rapport with the technical team and understand how installs come together. Eventually, the goal is to grow your own team under you.
This role is ideal for someone who thrives on ownership, loves the technical side of integration, and enjoys building lasting partnerships with clients.
Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain your own client pipeline—lead generation is fully self-managed.
- Conduct on-site consultations to assess client needs and develop technical AV solutions.
- Design, scope, and present tailored AV system proposals.
- Collaborate with internal technical teams to ensure accurate system implementation.
- Shadow installs early in your tenure to build team cohesion and understand field operations.
- Provide ongoing account management and serve as a long-term advisor to clients.
- Eventually hire and mentor additional AV sales staff as the division grows.
- Travel to sites across Missouri as needed (typically within a 3.5-hour radius, with expenses covered).
Qualifications
- Proven experience in commercial AV system sales, engineering, or installation.
- Strong technical understanding of AV integration principles and design.
- Customer-focused and highly relational—you view yourself as a consultant, not a closer.
- Self-starter mentality with excellent organizational and communication skills.
- Comfortable working independently in a small business environment.
- Capable of wearing many hats and adjusting to the evolving needs of a growing company.
- Valid driver's license and flexibility for regional travel.
Bonus Points For
- Background in electrical/low-voltage work or AV system installation.
- Experience working for or selling AV solutions on behalf of manufacturers.
- Exposure to video surveillance, access control, or related security technologies.
- Comfort navigating small-town business culture with humility and professionalism.
Compensation & Structure
- Base Salary: $50,000–$60,000 (depending on experience)
- Commission: Tiered commission structure
