Residential Security & AV Installation Technician
Company Overview
We are partnering with a family-owned security and technology integration firm that has served the St. Louis market for more than 40 years. Now in its second generation of ownership, the company designs, installs, and services electronic security, smart home automation, lighting and shading control, and audio/video systems for thousands of residential and commercial clients from Metro St. Louis out to the Lake of the Ozarks. The technical bar here is high, and so is the standard for how clients are treated in their homes.
They are also, deliberately, a small company. Ownership has no ambition to become the biggest shop in town. The goal is to be the best place in town to build a long career.
Why Join Us?
- Family Comes First, and They Mean It: Ownership is actively against mandatory overtime because they want people going home to their families. If something comes up at home, it takes precedence, even when it's inconvenient for the shop. Overtime is available for those who want the extra income and the workload supports it, but it is never required.
- A Genuinely Light On-Call Rotation: On-call rotates every two weeks, and it is about as low-impact as it gets in this industry. Technicians average one to two calls per on-call period, and the company has rolled a truck after hours only twice in the past ten years.
- They Invest When You Make the Case: This is a small, adaptable team. If you identify a tool, a certification, or a better way of doing something and can make a solid argument for it, leadership listens and generally says yes. Decisions don't disappear into layers of approval.
- Real Career Runway: Technicians here have moved into project management, crew leadership, and design. Ownership is young, invested for the long haul, and would rather grow someone internally than hire over them.
- Work on Premium Systems: Control4, Lutron HomeWorks, Alarm.com, access control, surveillance, and networking across high-end residential and commercial projects. There's variety here, not the same install every day.
- A Tight, No-Ego Crew: A small core team that likes each other, jokes around, and steps in wherever help is needed. They do a few events a year for the team to connect outside of work.
Job Overview
We are hiring a Residential Security & AV Installation Technician to install, program, and service systems across residential and commercial projects throughout the St. Louis metro area.
This is a hands-on role for an experienced technician who can contribute from the first week. Because the team is small, everyone has the ability to make an impact. This is not a lead technician position and you won't be asked to run crews, but you will be trusted to own your work.
The ideal candidate understands both the security and the AV sides of the business: alarm and life safety systems, access control, surveillance, and network configuration alongside rack building, structured wiring, and control system programming. Strength in both is the target. Genuine strength in one, paired with a real appetite to learn the other, is very much worth a conversation.
Responsibilities
- Install, program, and service residential and commercial security systems, including alarm panels, life safety devices, video surveillance, and access control.
- Install and program smart home and AV systems, including control, audio, video, lighting, and shading platforms.
- Pull, terminate, and test structured wiring to a clean and reliable standard.
- Build, wire, and install equipment racks.
- Configure and troubleshoot networking equipment on job sites.
- Diagnose and resolve service issues across both security and AV systems.
- Work professionally in occupied homes and businesses, including client system orientation and walkthroughs.
- Participate in the rotating on-call schedule, roughly every two weeks.
- Communicate proactively with the office throughout the day on job status, obstacles, and completions.
- Maintain vehicle stock, tools, and job documentation.
Qualifications
Required
- Hands-on field experience installing and servicing security systems, AV and smart home systems, or both.
- Working knowledge of at least one side of the business at a professional level, with demonstrated willingness to learn the other.
- Ability to wire, terminate, and troubleshoot low voltage systems independently.
- Comfortable and professional working in clients' homes.
- Strong, timely communicator. Leadership stays in close contact throughout the day and expects responsiveness.
- Adaptable and coachable. The company has established ways of doing things and needs someone willing to work within them.
- A track record of stability rather than frequent job changes.
- Valid driver's license and clean driving record (required, no exceptions).
- Successful completion of a pre-employment drug screen and background check.
- Own hand tools, including cordless drills, multi-tools, and testing equipment. The company provides corded power tools and specialty equipment.
Preferred
- Control4 programming experience.
- Lutron HomeWorks certification or experience.
- Alarm.com experience.
- Access control, video surveillance, and fire and life safety system experience.
- Substantial residential integration experience.
- Networking configuration and troubleshooting experience.
- Interest in growing toward project management, crew leadership, or system design.
Physical Demands: This role involves ladder work, access to attics and crawl spaces, lifting and maneuvering equipment, and extended periods of standing, kneeling, and working in tight or unfinished spaces.
